Ayurveda
is regarded as the most ancient and traditional medical science of the
world. This originated in India in pre-vedic period. Rigveda and
Harvard-Neda have the references on health and diseases. Some Ayurvedic
texts such as Charak Samhita were written 1000 B.C. So, this is being
practiced successfully in India for centuries. We can understand its
importance, if we compare it with the other forms of the medicine. The
advanced versions of Allopathic medicines get outdated in months, but the
age-old formulations of the Ayurveda work till date. We agree that Allopathy
has brought the revolutionary inventions in medical science, but we will
also have to accept that Ayurveda is a natural and holistic therapy which
has very nominal side-effects on the body.
The Meaning :
The term Ayurveda means 'Science of Life'. This science covers all of the
measures for healthy life and it's various phases. It also is linked with
the principles for the maintenance of health and wide range of therapeutic
measures to combat illness. All of these principles are related to physical,
mental, social and spiritual welfare of the human beings. Thus this oldest
system of health care has perhaps the most comprehensive vision of health,
closely similar to the WHO's definition of health.
